This paper describes a new PCB routing system based on Al techniques. In order to raise the routing completion rates, RES adopts a knowledge-based method. It incorporates the designer's knowledge as a set of rules.

To develop a knowledge-based routing system which can solve a large scale real problem, we adopted a hybrid approach by combining the PROLOG and PASCAL language. Further, we proposed a new event-driven inference engine and a knowledge representation method.
